On Black Hole Horizon Fluctuations

چکیده
A study of the high angular momentum particles ’atmosphere’ near the Schwarzschild black hole horizon suggested that strong gravitational interactions occur at invariant distance of the order of 3 √ M . We present a generalization of this result to the Kerr-Newman black hole case. It is shown that the larger charge and angular momentum black hole bears, the larger invariant distance at which strong gravitational interactions occur becomes. This invariant distance is of order 3 √ r +/(r+ − r−). This implies, that the Planckian structure of the Hawking radiation of extreme black holes is completely broken. PACS: 04.60.-m; 04.70Dy

Cosmological and Black Hole Horizon Fluctuations
The quantum fluctuations of horizons in Robertson-Walker universes and in the Schwarzschild spacetime are discussed. The source of the metric fluctuations is taken to be quantum linear perturbations of the gravitational field. Lightcone fluctuations arise when the retarded Green’s function for a massless field is averaged over these metric fluctuations. This averaging replaces the delta-functio...
متن کاملEnhanced Geometry Fluctuations in Minkowski and Black Hole Spacetimes
We will discuss selected physical effects of spacetime geometry fluctuations, especially the operational signatures of geometry fluctuations and their effects on black hole horizons. The operational signatures which we discuss involve the effects of the fluctuations on images, and include luminosity variations, spectral line broadening and angular blurring. Our main interest will be in black ho...
متن کاملHow Wrinkled is the Surface of a Black Hole ? *
We present evidence that, below a certain threshold scale, the horizon of a black hole is strongly wrinkled, with its shape manifesting a self-similar (“fractal”) spectrum of fluctuations on all scales below the threshold. This threshold scale is small compared to the radius of the black hole, but still much larger than the Planck scale. If present, such fluctuations might account for a large p...
متن کاملEvaporating black holes and long range scaling
For an effective treatment of the evaporation process of a large black hole the problem concerning the role played by the fluctuations of the (vacuum) stress tensor close to the horizon is addressed. We present arguments which establish a principal relationship between the outwards fluctuations of the stress tensor close to the horizon and quantities describing the onset of the evaporation proc...
متن کاملFluctuations of an evaporating black hole from back reaction of its Hawking radiation: Questioning a premise in earlier work
This paper delineates the first steps in a systematic quantitative study of the spacetime fluctuations induced by quantum fields in an evaporating black hole. We explain how the stochastic gravity formalism can be a useful tool for that purpose within a low-energy effective field theory approach to quantum gravity. As an explicit example we apply it to the study of the sphericallysymmetric sect...
متن کاملSU–GP–95–7–3 gr-qc/9508002 Two Topics concerning Black Holes: Extremality of the Energy, Fractality of the Horizon*
We treat two aspects of the physics of stationary black holes. First we prove that the proportionality, d(energy) ∝ d(area) for arbitrary perturbations (“extended first law”), follows directly from an extremality theorem drawn from earlier work [1]. Second we consider quantum fluctuations in the shape of the horizon, concluding heuristically that they exhibit a fractal character, with order λ f...
